The Mac seems to recognise the drive, but 'Toast' only sees the built in Mac DVD drive. I've tried on Toast to update the drive, but there only seems to be the option to add a network drive, which this external drive isn't. I recently bought a SE-506BB Blu-Ray Writer with Cyberlink PowerDVD. Bought the same external drive from Amazon, installed the software,.
The USB port on your computer may not have sufficient power to properly run your Samsung external BD drive. This appears to be a somewhat common problem for this drive and does not matter what type of computer that you are using. I would suggest that you get a USB hub that is powered which should provide the power needed for the Samsung drive. If needed, you could go to to download a USB driver. Bruce Wooding Windows Outreach Team- IT Pro Windows for IT Pros on TechNet I wouldn't download from that site. All the downloads are full of viruses, spyware or some other malware. I have the very same problem.
I have had this drive for almost 1 year. It will not recognize Blu Ray discs. Will not play or burn.
Tried everything.Firmware update, Y-cord, separate power supply, Belkin powered hub (Able to supply up to 2 Amps).NOTHING WORKS! At first I thought I had a defective unit but now I see the problem is widespread for many that purchased this drive. What's up SAMSUNG?
What is the secret? Why isn't the Blu Ray laser firing up?
Seems to me to be a driver or firmware problem. I am using a HP Pavilion 23 All-In-One with Windows 10 64 bit. It has USB2 and USB3 ports.Same response in either port. DVD's play and burn OK but not Blu Ray?
